A Restless Winter with the Page of Wands

“Argh! I'm feeling bored, depressed, restless, and unmotivated--all at the same time!”

This is a quote from an email I received recently from one of my very lovely clients, who's generally positive and industrious by nature. She's feeling frustrated and stuck.

And she's not alone!

Since the pandemic started, a lot of people have been feeling a little trapped at home--working fewer hours, and doing a lot less traveling and socializing.

But despite having more time on their hands, they're having trouble focusing and can't seem to get much done.

It's starting to feel like a two-year long bout with cabin fever, and they're doing a lot of pacing, scrolling, and climbing the walls.

They've already cut their own hair, dyed half of it blue, alphabetized their cupboards and bookshelves, and finished Netflix--but they're still feeling restless.

So, they went deeper! Now they’re listening to entrepreneur podcasts or researching all kinds of online training programs; or maybe they're studying a foreign language, while fantasizing about starting a travel blog.

And now the darkest weeks of the year have combined with fiery Sagittarius energy, adding to the stir-crazy restlessness!

Whatever the specifics, they’re spending hours going down these fascinating digital rabbit holes...and maybe feeling a little guilty about it--like they should be working, paying bills, or cleaning the house.

This is how my bored, restless, and unmotivated client was feeling. I did a quick tarot reading to prepare for my next session with her. As is so often the case, the perfect card came up. I’d like to share with you, in case you’re also feeling stuck, restless, or uninspired.

The Page of Wands

The Page of Wands is all about the joy of creation and self-expression for its own sake--pursuing your curiosity without worrying about whether it’s practical or makes sense to anyone else.

It's about having fun, finding your own inspiration, and following up on whatever makes your heart sparkle.

The Page of Wands is like a creativity cheerleader. He encourages you to go even deeper down those rabbit holes—with no guilt about it—and make one of your fascinating distractions a part of your life in a concrete way.

When I asked my client about this, she knew exactly what to do. She’s always wanted to learn how to sing, but felt too self-conscious to try. After a friend sent her a link to a viral video of an amazing vocal performance (Kings Return, Ubi Caritas), she just couldn’t stop watching it!

Her old dream reemerged and she decided she wouldn't let her fears hold her back any longer. She needed music in her life in a more direct way, and started taking online singing lessons. Her plan is to be ready to audition for a community chamber choir when things open up again.

Whatever comes of her new singing practice, she’s feeling motivated and excited about something again, and these feelings have carried over into other parts of her life as well.

Do you have a fascinating distraction?

Whether you feel like getting artistic or crafty, literary or techie, starting a band or a side hustle, the Page of Wands is about fun, creativity, and discovery.

Wands represent action and new beginnings. Pages are all about approaching life with a child-like, and not-so-serious-all-the-time-for-god-sake attitude.

It comes with a huge amount of freedom!

Allow your Inspiration and excitement to overcome your self-doubt.

And even if right now, you only have the energy and the courage to take a single step toward that vision, let the Page of Wands’ optimism, enthusiasm, and adventurous spirit carry you that one step forward.
